Student arrested for declaring 'loyalty to ISIS' - Mana Telangana

An IIT Guwahati student, who is believed to have pledged allegiance to ISIS, was arrested on Saturday in Hajo, Assam. The fourth-year biotechnology student recently announced on a social media platform and in emails that he intends to join the terrorist organization. He went missing from the IIT Guwahati campus. He was booked under the stringent Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA). He was taken to a court in Guwahati on Sunday. The court sent him to police custody for ten days. He entered Assam illegally from Bangladesh
Later, the latest arrest took place just days after ISIS India chief Haris Farooqui was arrested in Dhubri district. According to police sources, a lookout alert was issued for the Delhi-based student after he wrote an open letter on LinkedIn explaining the reason for his decision. He was found at Hajo in Kamrup district, 30 km from Guwahati. He was taken into custody for investigation. When the police contacted IIT Guwahati authorities, the student had been ‘missing’ since afternoon and his mobile phone had been switched off, officials said.
